Ecological Risk Assessment incorporates a combination of field and laboratory-derived information. ardea consulting interprets these field and laboratory results to provide a complete picture of any ecological risk to birds and other wildlife. We can also collect additional data to complete the assessment as necessary. Assessments are suitable for submission to the U.S. EPA and other regulatory agencies.

ardea consulting researches and writes the entire Ecological Risk Assessment or provides avian or wildlife toxicology input as part of a team. ardea presents a summary of any ecotoxicology data gaps with suggestions on ways to fill the gaps, and then conducts any required field work.

Sample Projects:

Project #1:
Problem: Herbicides were to be applied to a lake for control of invasive plants.

Solution: Conduct comparative and cumulative risk assessment for herbicide exposure to species of concern.

Result: Provide client with documentation and analysis for inclusion in their Environmental Impact Report.
Project #2:
Problem: A manufacturing site requires clean-up criteria be based solely on ecological endpoints.

Solution: Compare soil and sediment contaminant levels to established toxicity reference values.

Result: A site evaluation of bird and mammal species present on the site was performed to determine species at risk to exposure.
Project #3:
Problem: A manufacturer needed to conduct an ecological risk assessment on a new product.

Solution: The suite of skills needed for the project dictated a team approach. ardea consulting reviewed laboratory and field studies to report on terrestrial ecotoxicology and worked with other scientists to complete the risk assessment. ardea’s principal role was to combine the laboratory toxicity data with the field data to propose representative bird species for the assessment, and to evaluate the exposure and risk for these species.

Result: The final risk assessment was a comprehensive document including environmental fate, marketing projections and conclusions regarding risk to birds and mammals. ardea contributed portions of text for the main body of the assessment as well as complete appendices for support of the avian exposure components of the assessment.
ardea provides efficient, high quality service while following the most cost-effective procedures.
